Hotel Riu Palace Kukulkan

2024 April/May

Stay number 2 at Riu Palace Kukulkan was just as nice as the first. There have been a few changes since my 2023 visit. One of the swimming pools is for Elite Club only. Elite Club restaurant is now open. I returned to Hotel Riu Palace Kukulkan for a 4-night stay. This time I stayed in a Partial Ocean View room with a king bed. Whenever offered, Elite Club will be my choice. The upgraded liquor, upgraded room service menu and the ability to reserve dinner times are worth the upgrade.

Elite Club has a few changes since my last visit. EC now has its own pool and restaurant.

I dined in the Italian, Fusion and Asian restaurants. Everything was good! The breakfast and lunch buffet has a variety of options.

I’m late but I took with me an insulated reusable tumbler for the first time. GAME CHANGER!!! My frozen mojito stayed frozen! This tumbler is now part of my always take to Caribbean/Mexico list.

Still recommended. Still 4.5/5.

2023 April/May

This all inclusive adults-only resort is located on the beach. Riu Palace Kukulkan has 428 rooms (junior suite and suites), 4 swimming pools (1 with swim up bar), a gym and nightly entertainment. Everything at the resort is close to each other. Shopping, restaurants and local attractions are also a short walk away across the street.

After booking this resort July 2022, I had concerns. I booked July 2022. They opened November 26, 2022. Thereafter, the reviews were not favorable…from the service to the food. I am happy to report that they are listening and things are improving!

Service is top notch. The staff consistently asked our group of 8 (and other guests) if we needed anything. There are signs to hang on the door know when cleaning is needed or when you do not want to be disturbed. They both served their purpose.

Junior suites are spacious. Each room has liquor dispensers. While I was the sole occupant, there is plenty of space for 2 people. I upgraded to an Ocean Front Elite Club Junior Suite with 2 double beds. Elite Club includes upgraded liquor dispensers, snacks, exclusive room service menu, premium brand drinks at the lobby bar and Lounge Bar, early check-in/late check out when available and the ability to make dinner reservations.

The steakhouse, Krystal and the buffet were our favorite restaurants. While the buffet was one of our favorite, it was a hit or miss with some of the selections. We did find items that we like. Pepe’s Grill by the pool is also good. Grab a plate and relax in the outside dining area or by the pool. One evening, we had dinner at the Mexican restaurant. The food was bland. We did not try the Italian restaurant. The guests exiting the restaurant informed us that the food was not good. We dined at the buffet again. During dinner, men are not permitted to wear sleeveless shirts. Shorts and sandals may be worn.

Alcoholic beverages were stronger earlier in the week. Later in the week they seemed to be watered down. The temperature did increase by the end of the week which may have affected the drinks. I did bring this to their attention.

If you like to exercise while on vacation, there is gym. The RiuFit calendar lists fitness classes available daily. Classes are in the RiuFit area or on the beach. Spa and salon services are available for a fee.

I recommend the Riu Palace Kukulkan. My overall rating is 4.5/5. Please take a few minutes to watch the YouTube video below.
